I taught an Introduction to Authoring class at the Art Institute in Fall of '09. One of my students ambitiously recreated the classic SnakeByte game for his final project in Flash. Seeing his process inspired me to do my own rewrite.
The game is Object-Oriented AS3, targets Flash Player 10, and takes advantage of the new Vector class for optimization techniques.
You can play the game and download the source here. My high score is 720, beat that!
Portland MLS 2011
This Wordpress driven site for the Portland Timbers announces their soon-to-be introduction into Major League Soccer. Site features an animated countdown timer to when the team goes MLS, News and Event posts, and various content pages.
Designed by Leo Battersby at NemoHQ and developed by myself, this theme is XHTML and Web Standards compliant, fully supported on mobile devices, and sits on an efficient JavaScript font embedding engine that delivers native CCS 3 font embedding to browsers that support it, and uses Cufon to deliver font embedding to browsers that don't support native font embedding.
Timberline Updates
Working mostly in-house at NemoHQ, I added some new features to the Timberline Lodge site. A few of the many additions include a new homepage design, a Timberline Parks Blog, and a new Connect section.
Owl City Flash Header
I worked with designer Dan Schechter on this Twitter-fed interactive Flash Banner for the band OwlCity. Planes take flight displaying the band's Twitter updates. API calls are used to allow the user to login and post directly to the band's Twitter account. Users can even kick back with some popcorn and watch the planes fly fullscreen.
NemoHQ Site
This site is bad ass...
I didn't do a whole lot of development on this site, but I love the parts I did do! Larry Reynolds, Denny Mcentire, and I explored new technologies to Flash Player 10, PixelBender, to enhance the transitions for nemohq.com. The transitions are used to animate from image to image in slideshows like this one. A proof of concept for the PixelBender transitions that is used on the site can be viewed here.
I also contributed to the Nemo ActionScript Core Library, which drives a lot of this site's complex functionality behind the scenes. Many of the tools I built at nemo are being repackaged into an AS3 library I'm starting called trycatch.
Timberline Lodge Ski Resort Site
I worked on developing this Wordpress site co-developer Dane Hesseldahl and under Art Director David Ewald while at NemoHQ. Nate Bedortha came on full-time as our Web Standards resource and eventually took over development of the site. With his help, he and I successfully added some sizeable post-launch pieces of functionality to the site.
This website was designed and built very quickly, I remember enjoying it particularly because doing HTML/CSS/JS was a break from the day-to-day Flash Development I was doing at the time. I learned a lot about Web Standards, and the Wordpress Blogging Platform.
Additionally, I was fortunate enough to do some design work on the site, particularly the Conditions and Explore pages. This site features a live webcam, a Flickr driven and community-fed AJAX Slideshow, live weather updates, Events, Menus, and additional resort info.
This site rocked the charts on Wordpress.com in the Top Rated Showcase Category, and has been nominated for a 2009 Portland Nosey Award.
I am very proud of all the work that went into this site, to have been apart of it, and to hold memories of the Ski/Snowboard Community's positive responses.
Voodoo PC
This one was a bread winner. I worked on this full-window ActionScript 3.0 website for many months while at Nemo Headquarters under Lead Developer Josh Pope. Together, Josh and I were driven to explore creative solutions to David Ewald's' design challenges with the then-new version ActionScript.
I eventually became the Lead Developer of the site, and saw it through a full version update.
VoodooPC recieved an American Design Award in November of 2008.
Nike Plus Global Press Kit Digital Development
As an intern at NemoHQ working under Art Director and Lead Designer Rodger Bridges, I headed Development for this Interactive Nike Global Press Release Kit. Shipped and deployed from custom made Nike Flash Drives, this interactive application gave global media sources the ability to download print resolution images, translated press copy, and view videos and interactive demos of the soon to be released product.
Quality Assurance, which was very important with this project, was led by Emmanuel Bonnet of +QA. We could not afford any bugs making it into the product release builds that were installed and shipped on the Flash Drives. Thanks to Emmanuel, none did. I used MProjector to deploy the Flash movie from the jumpdrive on PC / Mac platforms.
Future Snowboard Magazine Weather Widget
Assigned this project as an Intern at NemoHQ, I saw it as my chance at a full-time position. The task: to design and build an Interactive Weather widget for the Future Snowboard Magazine homepage.
Not only was I excited because I saw the project as an opportunity, I was a long time fan of the magazine and snowboarding itself. I did a little bit of everything on this project, designing the widget, doing the flash development, and php development necessary to make the XML data feeds usable.
I put a lot into this project, and was fortunate enough to get a lot back. A few months later, Trevor Graves and others from the NemoHQ gang surprised me at my Graduation Portfolio Show, offering me my long-awaited full-time position, and the greatest jump start I could have asked for into my career as an Interactive Developer.
Nike Boots Video
Still got my Nike Boots! I worked on this Motion Graphics video as an Intern at NemoHQ under the direction of Rodger Bridges. I used AfterEffects to create a 30 second promotional video for nikeboots.com.
It's not bad when your first project as an intern is played in retail stores on the East Coast and airs on nike.com...
Paper trail maps get wrinkled, smudged, and ruined. The solution is simple - attentive typography screen printed on durable canvas. Who cares if it gets muddy, throw it in the wash, and never lose your way.
I love making things from scratch. This was a final for a Package Design class at AIPD. I designed and screen printed a breathable and durable canvas bag to hold Mace brand mountain biking shin guards.
TLE Magazine Spread
A magazine spread on one of my favorite Australian Rockabilly bands, The Living End. Designed and Illustrated from scratch, no stock photos used.
